Exam Stress | Motivational Mondays

So it's that time of year again, where you have no social life or free time, because you have to study for your stupid exams (at least that's what my life is like at the moment...)! Ever since the beginning of my easter break (which was 6 weeks ago now) I've been hitting the books, studying my little butt off! And may I just say, I think I am about to go crazy!!

But luckily for me, it's almost all over (praise the lord!) and I only have 10 more days now until I am free from exams (until next year that is, when it happens all over again!!!). For those of you who don't know, I'm studying maths at university in London (which is definitely not everyone's cup of tea), and let me tell you, it can be a bitch.

But I'm not writing this post to complain about my problems, but to instead give you motivation and inspiration to help you get through yours! I know that exams are a lot of work, and some people may not even bother to study till the last minute, but if you do study, you will be rewarded in some way.

Here are my 5 top tips to help you pull yourself to the finish line:

#1 Have a good work environment
This is something that is absolutely key for me! Every morning I have to clean my room as my philosophy is, "messy room, cluttered mind" meaning that if I don't tidy my room, my brain cant thing straight. Also make sure that there is nothing around to distract you (so put that phone well away)! If you have to use your computer to study, have a separate window open for your work related things to help stay off youtube, facebook etc! Something else which I believe is crucial is having a comfortable work area. My upper back, neck and shoulders are prone to hurt, especially during stressful seasons like exams, so I have to ensure that my posture is perfect.

#2 Plan!
One of the best things that help me to actually work, is to set myself a rough schedule. For the past few weeks, I planned out to do two past papers a day, which helped me put everything in a time scale so that I wouldn't be panicking when my exams came around because I hadn't done everything I wanted to do. You don't have to create an hour by hour schedule, but rather a rough outline of what you might want to achieve each day (perhaps choose a few areas of your studies to focus on). I find that when I know what I am doing, I am more productive and focused.

#3 Take breaks when YOU need to
Everyone is different when it comes to how long they can work for, so if you need breaks every 40 minutes, then allow yourself to have a break. But make sure you control how long your breaks are (say 5 minutes), because otherwise, your break time will be more than your revision time.

#4 Don't forget to relax!
Sometimes, we all need a break from our work to renew our energy, so that we can work to the best of our ability. It's ok, to go out and have fun (as long as it's not the day before the exam...)! I find that having a day where I do nothing, really clears up my mind, and gets me focused. Generally I work in the morning (as I find that I can concentrate better), so that I can have the evenings completely free from work to do absolutely nothing. And I never work past 8pm as I find that my brain is absolute mush by then.

#5 Look forward to the end!
Something that gets me through my exams, is knowing that this torture will end! Just simply put it into perspective that you will be only sacrificing a few weeks out of the thousands that you will have in your life! And before you know it, you will be out laughing and partying with your friends. Just think about how after you finished, you will be able to sleep in till whenever o'clock, or how you can sit around and do absolutely nothing, just because you can! You can go out and explore, and you can look forward to the rest of your life!

I hope you've found this useful! I am definitely not an expert in anyway when it comes to exams, and we all have different things that work best for ourselves. I also want to apologise for not posting for the longest of time, but I've been exhausted after studying all day, and I couldn't find the energy to write a post.

But don't worry, I will be back to my normal beauty blogging self in 10 days (which I cant wait for)!! Let me know if you have any good tips or tricks for exam time! And let me know if you've found this helpful!
